The Lorica (Armor) of Patrick

I arise today
Through a mighty strength,
the invocation of the Trinity
Through belief in the threeness
Through confession of the Oneness
Towards the creator.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun
Brilliance of moon
Splendor of fire
Speed of lightning
Swiftness of wind
Depth of sea
Stability of earth
Firmness of rock.

I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me:
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s host to secure me
against snares of devils
against temptations of vices
against inclinations of nature
against everyone who shall wish me ill,
afar and anear,
alone and in a crowd.

Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left
Christ where I lie, Christ where I sit,
Christ where I arise
Christ in the heart of every
man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man
who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength,
the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Thrones,
Through confession of the Oneness
Towards the Creator.

Purpose In Prayer

Bp. David Scott sent this blog out to everyone in our Communion, and it was such a blessing that I wanted to share it with everyone else. Enjoy!

A person who conducted an informal survey about the prayers people pray in his church and found that most people pray one of two types of prayers. The first was an SOS - not only "Save Our Souls", but also, "O God, help us now". The second was an SOP prayer, or "Solve Our Problems" prayer.

People asked the Lord to eliminate all needs, struggles, trials, and temptations. They wanted carefree, perfect lives, and they fully believed that is what God had promised them. He concluded from his survey: "Most people want God to do it all."

God has not promised, however, to live our lives for us, but rather to walk through our lives with us. Our part is to be faithful and obedient; His part is to lead us, guide us, and help us.

"God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the labor,
Light for the way,
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love."
(Annie Johnson Flient)

Do what you know you can do today and God will do what you cannot do.

You cannot control the length of your life but you can control its width and depth.
(Evan Esar)

...and behold, I am with you all the days, perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion, to the very close and consummation of the age.
Matthew 28:20 (AMP)
